Why is getting my dog groomed so important?
Some pets have short, low maintenance coats. Their owners may not think it's necessary to bring them to the groomer since they don't get haircuts. However, regular grooming schedules keep coats clean, reduce shedding, improve blood circulation through brushing and can create a more glossy, moisturized coat simply by spreading the skin's natural oils around.
Unbrushed long or curly coats are at risk for large or heavy knots called mats. These can become very tight over time, and can create irritations on the skin. In addition to checking skin and coat condition, other areas of the body are also looked over. Your groomer should report anything out of the ordinary or that looks or smells suspicious. I view ears, eyes, teeth and nails. Some pets may have eye or ear discharge, poor dental health, or nails that have grown too long. Many grooms are regularly scheduled every 4-6 weeks on average, which helps to keep tabs on your pet's health.
Your dog's grooming experience should be relaxing and stress free. This is exactly why I choose to work in a low volume setting. Pet parents are always welcome to stay with their dog to assist, provided it helps to make the grooming a more successful one.
